The best of the Wimbledon crowd: Olivia Rodrigo swaps Glastonbury for the All England Club
They may have done away with the line judges, but one thing at the All England Club remains true at least: of all the events in the summer social calendar, Wimbledon is the most stylish - whatever the weather.
Ascot may have its hats, the Serpentine Summer Party has its art world edge, and the Cartier Polo has its glamour, but there’s a realness amongst the tennis-lovers flocking to SW19 that makes it genuinely inspiring for how to dress smartly in summer, come rain or shine. Just look at Olivia Rodrigo (left), fresh from her Glastonbury headline set at the weekend, in red gingham on Wednesday.
While Wimbledon is not an entirely stylist-free zone, we do get to see some genuine fashion spontaneity amongst the celebrity guests. Yes, actors, singers, broadcasters et al, choosing their own outfits. It may sound ridiculous to celebrate it, but in a world where styled perfection is the norm, it’s refreshing to see them in shoes that are actually comfortable, holding bags which can carry more than a lip gloss. It’s in these outfits that we can find relatable ideas for real life, be it a heatwave or a damp squib (meteorologically speaking).
Wimbledon dressing is not without its challenges: there’s no official dress code (more on how to navigate that here), and there’s a certain practicality required (hats, sunglasses, and SPF in this heatwave) that prevents spectators from going OTT.
