Elon Musk posts grovelling Trump tweet after president's deportation threat

Elon Musk has tried to defuse his row with Donald Trump in a grovelling post to his X social media. The Tesla billionaire reignited his feud with the US President over his signature tax bill - the BBB (the Big Beautiful Bill).

He slammed it as "insane" and threatened to set up a new political party, provoking a furious response from the White House supremo. Trump threatened to end Government subsidies to Musk's companies and to deport him back to South Africa.

In a major climbdown, the South African entrepreneur took to X to praise the US President for his role in negotiating a potential ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social website that Israel has agreed "to the necessary conditions to finalise a 60 Day CEASEFIRE".

Commenting on the post, Musk said: "Credit where credit is due. @realDonaldTrump

has successfully resolved several serious conflicts around the world."

Social media users mocked Musk for his humiliating climbdown and lack of courage in a series of biting posts.

One wrote: "Credit where credit is due"? The same man who called you a threat now gets your praise because power means more than dignity.

"Meanwhile, the paying users who truly called for peace got suspended, ghosted, and robbed.

"So yes, credit where credit is due: you never disappoint when it comes to kneeling."

While another said: "You are such a kiss-ass.."

Musk has been infuriated by Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill", which was passed by a majority of one in a Senate vote yesterday.

Critics say the bill will add an eye-popping US$3.3 trillion to the national debt that currently stands at US$36 trillion.

The bill encompasses a blend of massive tax cuts and reductions in welfare spending, including Medicaid - a programme which provides medical services to workers on low incomes.

Trump has rejected Musk's criticisms of his signature bill, alleging that his opposition is because the legislation would end a tax credit for consumers purchasing electric vehicles.
