Donald Trump repeats call to make Canada 51st state in unhinged Canadian election day rant

Image
Donald Trump unleashed an unhinged rant about Canada as he reiterated his calls to make the country the 51st state — on Canada's own election day. Canada will select a new prime minister on Monday, an election that could determine the nature of the North American country's relationship with its southern neighbor, the U.S. "Good luck to the Great people of Canada. Elect the man who has the strength and wisdom to cut your taxes in half, increase your military power, for free, to the highest level in the World, have your Car, Steel, Aluminum, Lumber, Energy, and all other businesses, QUADRUPLE in size, WITH ZERO TARIFFS OR TAXES, if Canada becomes the cherished 51st. State of the United States of America," Trump wrote on Truth Social early Monday morning. "No more artificially drawn line from many years ago. Look how beautiful this land mass would be," Trump continued. "Free access with NO BORDER. ALL POSITIVES WITH NO NEGATIVES. IT WAS MEANT TO BE!...

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025 inductees are here. See who made the list.

Image
The boys club that comprises this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class also contains a female solo musician who has always been a striking presence: Cyndi Lauper. She's among the seven new inductees, whittled from a list of 14 announced earlier this year, who spotlight a more conventional rock lineup – excepting Atlanta hip-hop innovators Outkast – than the genre diverse classes of recent years. The newest entrants, announced during the live broadcast of the “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night” episode of “American Idol" on April 27, are: When does the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony air? The full induction ceremony airs live Nov. 8 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Disney+ and arrives on Hulu the next day. A condensed version will air on ABC at a yet-to-be-announced date. Those who didn’t make the cut this year include The Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Maná and Phish – all first-time nominees – along with Mariah Carey and Oasis (both nominated in 2024 for the...

NBA great Jason Kidd joins ownership group of Premier League soccer club Everton

Image
NBA great Jason Kidd has entered the soccer world by joining the ownership group of English Premier League club Everton. The Hall of Fame point guard and current Dallas Mavericks coach said he was “honored” to join Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is part of the Friedkin Group that took control of Everton last year. The group also owns Italian team Roma. In a statement released Thursday by Everton, executive chairman Marc Watts said Kidd’s “knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource” for a nine-time English champion which is without a major trophy since 1995 and has been battling relegation in recent years. Kidd “is a respected leader and household name for many sports fans,” Watts said, “and will bring a deeper understanding of high performance as we collectively strive to build a brighter future for this storied club.” Kidd won an NBA title as a player with the Mavericks in 2011 and was a two-time Olympic gold-medal winner with the U.S. national team, in 2...

China reveals worrying plans to build nuclear power plant on moon with Russia

Image
China has revealed they are considering plans to build a nuclear power plant on the Moon, in order to power a potential research facility the country is reportedly planning with Russia . China has ramped up its space program in recent decades, promising to put astronauts on the Moon by 2030. The country's Chang'e-8 mission scheduled for 2028 would potentially lay the groundwork for a permanent manned lunar base. During a presentation given by a senior government official on Wednesday in Shanghai, the 2028 mission's Chief Engineer Pei Zhaoyu said the proposed lunar base could also rely on large-scale solar arrays, pipelines and cables for heating and electricity. Russia's space agency announced last year that it was planning to build a nuclear reactor on the Lunar surface in conjunction with the China National Space Administration (CNSA) to power the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). The inclusion of a proposed lunar nuclear reactor in China's space prese...

Man City star tipped ‘to quit’ with ‘offer’ to ‘turn his head’; Guardiola snubs ‘automatic replacement’

Image
According to reports, one Manchester City star is ‘increasingly likely to quit’ the Premier League side during this summer’s transfer window. Man City have massively declined this season as they exited the Premier League title race before the New Year. Pep Guardiola‘s side have struggled without Rodri, but his season-ending injury has purely acted to speed up their decline and a huge squad rebuild is required. Man City were comfortably Europe’s biggest spenders in January and they are also expected to invest heavily this summer. Club chiefs need to find a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who recently announced his summer exit, and could also look to sign a new goalkeeper. Ederson was once one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but his performances have dipped this season and he’s heavily linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League. The 31-year-old is under contract until 2026, but he could leave for a fee this summer as a transfer is ‘increasingly likely to q...

Liverpool signal Ibrahima Konate EXIT as they enter transfer talks

Image
Liverpool have signalled that an exit is on the way for Ibrahima Konate . The Reds are now in transfer talks. Ibrahima Konate's future is not clear right now. The Frenchman's contract expires at the end of the season and Liverpool's efforts to get a new one signed have thus far failed. There have been talks between the two parties but no agreement. And that's with Paris Saint-Germain lurking in the background to see if they can secure a homegrown talent on the cheap. Konate, who is from Paris, started his career with Paris FC. Anfield Watch understands that PSG now hope to snap him up, either on a cut-price deal this summer or by waiting for a free transfer in 2026. Liverpool, of course, won't want to lose him for nothing. Not after possibly losing Trent Alexander-Arnold for the same amount this summer. It opens the door to a transfer, in other words, and the Reds might actually be signalling that one is on the way. They've entered talks for a serious replaceme...

Decades-old Milky Way mystery may finally be solved after scientists discover new form of dark matter

Image
Scientists have discovered that a new form of dark matter could simultaneously solve two long-standing mysteries at the heart of our Milky Way . For decades, astronomers have been puzzled by unusually high ionisation rates in the "central molecular zone" or CMZ near our galaxy's core - in layman's terms, the number of atoms or molecules which lose their electrons in a given timeframe. The CMZ spans almost 700 light years and contains some of the densest molecular gas in our galaxy. Scientists have found this region is unusually ionised, with hydrogen molecules splitting into charged particles at a much faster rate than expected. Researchers have also long detected a strange gamma ray "glow" at an energy of 511 kiloelectronvolts (keV). Such a glow, first observed in the 1970s, occurs when electrons and their antimatter counterparts, positrons, collide - but its root cause has long remained unclear. Various explanations, including supernovas, massive stars an...

Ronnie O'Sullivan makes official statement on playing World Snooker Championship after draw made

Image
Ronnie O'Sullivan has confirmed he will compete in the 2025 World Snooker Championship , ending months of speculation about his participation. The seven-time world champion will return to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield next week, having not played on the World Snooker Tour since January. O'Sullivan, currently ranked world number five, made the announcement in an interview with TNT Sports. "I'm proud to continue my record of having never missed a World Championship. I have many fond memories at The Crucible and look forward to making more in 2025," he said. The tournament begins this Saturday and will run until 5 May. O'Sullivan's first-round match will see him face long-term rival Ali Carter on Tuesday. The draw has added extra intrigue given the pair's fractious history, with O'Sullivan having previously launched into a foul-mouthed rant about Carter. However, O'Sullivan stated earlier this year that he regretted those comments, saying: ...

Trump warned he's playing a 'dangerous game' by messing with 'Rule #1 in politics'

Image
Reflecting on the weeks of economic chaosDonald Trump has inflicted on American consumers and Wall Street investors as he has brashly instituted tariffs, then backed off, ramped them up again, and then started doing "carve-outs," a former GOP campaign consultant cautioned the president he is tempting fate. Speaking with the hosts of MSNBC's "The Weekend," Tara Setmayer detailed the economic pain Americans are experiencing while Trump's rich buddies get richer. That, she explained, could come back to bite him because he is ignoring what she called "Rule #1 in politics." "He [Trump] doesn't care about anyone this hurts except for his billionaire buddies and his own bottom line," she explained. "Back in 2012, Donald Trump is talking about how he loves when there's a bad economy, when the economy is bad, then I can buy things more cheaply. So, I mean, this is all we need to look underneath about who's benefiting from this a...

Marcel Desailly urges £45m Chelsea flop to join Champions League club

Image
Marcel Desailly has urged Joao Felix to leave Chelsea after failing to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. Felix is currently playing for AC Milan after joining the Serie A side on loan during the January transfer window. Milan are under no obligation to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent transfer and are not expected to enter into talks with Chelsea following the Portuguese’s struggles in Italy. Desailly believes ‘great talent’ Felix is still looking for ‘his place’ having struggled for game-time at Chelsea. The Blues spent £45m to sign Felix from Atletico Madrid last summer but were happy to offload him less than six months later after he started just three Premier League games. Republicans are bleeding support as Trump flounders big time | Opinion

Image
Massive protests across the country this past weekend turned out millions of energized Americans unified in opposition to Donald Trump . They came just as Trump had dropped a megaton bomb into the global economy, forever altering free trade, and shaking even his most staunch defenders. Markets will rebound, because that’s what they do. But Trump will not. He has caused lasting damage to the economy. Prices were rising before, and will rise more, with some experts saying inflation could soon go up to 4%. Consumer confidence has crashed. The Federal Reserve’s Jerome Powell warned of high inflation and a slowdown in economic growth because of Trump’s huge global import taxes, and so did J.P. Morgan’s chief Jamie Dimon. And several financial barometers now point to a Trump-induced recession. Some GOP members of Congress are speaking out. Even if it’s not enough to stop Trump now, it’s enough to torpedo the GOP and MAGA coalition. Elon Musk broke with Trump, calling for a free trade zo...

World's second-largest carmaker stops all US auto imports after Trump tariffs bite

Image
Volkswagen Group has made the shock decision to put all US-bound cars on hold after introducing a 25% tariff on all imported models. President Trump's self-proclaimed 'Liberation Day' saw a number of tariffs introduced in a bid to boost American industry, one of the most dramatic of which was a 25% tax on all imported cars. Reacting to the move, a spokesperson for Volkswagen Group criticised the new tariff, warning that it could damage economies worldwide, including in America. They explained: "We share the assessment of most experts that US tariffs and any counter-tariffs will have negative consequences for growth and prosperity in the US and other economic areas. The entire automotive industry, global supply chains and companies as well as customers will have to bear the negative consequences." Volkswagen has been producing vehicles in America since 1978 and currently builds several popular models, such as the Atlas SUV and ID.4 electric crossover, in its Tenn...

Golf news as Jordan Spieth pinpoints problem and Rickie Fowler out of Masters

Image
Three-time major champion Jordan Spieth needs to “get better at closing” out rounds ahead of the Masters while Rickie Fowler is set to miss out on the trip to Augusta. On Sunday, Brian Harman shot three-over in the final round to finish nine-under and win the Valero Texas Open at Oaks Course. Meanwhile, Spieth finished up in San Antonio at three-under to finish 12th, while Fowler logged an even score through all four rounds to finish tied for 30th Fowler needed to win the Texas Open to get into the field at Augusta National next week. But he faltered and was unable to find form, which means the 36-year-old is going to miss out on teeing off at the Masters - the first major of the season Last year, Fowler teed it up in all four major championships for the first time since 2020. He was never a genuine threat to win any of them; he tied for 30th at the Masters, tied for 63rd at the PGA Championship, missed the cut at the U.S. Open, and finished 71st at The Open Championship. But Fow...

Elon Musk breaks silence on global 'Hands Off!' protests slamming organizers as 'puppet masters'

Image
Tech billionaire Elon Musk dismissed the wave of “Hands Off!” protests held across the U.S. on Sunday, accusing demonstrators of being manipulated by unseen political operatives. “The problem is the puppet masters, not the puppets, as the latter have no idea why they are even there,” Musk posted on X, formerly Twitter, in his first public comment since hundreds of thousands took part in coordinated rallies targeting both Musk and former President Donald Trump. The protests, which unfolded in all 50 states and major cities including Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, were billed by organizers as a stand against government overreach and billionaire influence on democracy. Musk and Trump were directly named in chants and signs throughout the day. In a reposted video shared by conservative account @WallStreetApes, conservative commentator Laura Loomer alleged that demonstrators were “paid protesters,” pointing to footage of individuals receiving pre-printed signs and being bused to...
