India has won the Under 19 Cricket World Cup by defeating Australia by 8 wickets in the final at Mount Maunganui. Australia, who elected to bat after winning the toss, were bowled out for 216 in 47.2 overs. Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Anukul Roy took two wickets each.
The Indian team, coached by Rahul Dravid, (220/2) reached the target with eight wickets in hand and 11.1 overs to spare as they completely outclassed the Australians on Saturday. The highlight of the Indian inning was Manjot Kalra’s unbeaten 101 off 102 balls and was named Man of the Match.
Captain Prithvi Shaw joined the likes of Mohammad Kaif (2002), Virat Kohli (2008) and Unmukt Chand (2012) in leading the Indian side to the U-19 World Cup title.
