The former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag applied for the post of the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, after the former coach Anil Kumble resigned. Sehwag has had an experience of the mentor of the IPL franchise ‘Kings XL Punjab’.
Sehwag was one of the five candidates who went for the interview, while he enjoyed the backing of captain Virat Kohli, until, Sehwag proposed to bring along with him a team of support staff that would include physiotherapist Amit Tyagi and Kings XI Punjab assistant coach Mithun Manhas.
It is then that Kohli reportedly told Sehwag he had reservations as there is a professional set-up in place and put the onus on the CAC. It was then, Ravi Shastri was chosen above him, as Shastri was willing to have a more inclusive approach as far as he, the skipper and the team members were concerned.
