Facebook tests “EXPRESS WIFI” in India

Within a year of its attempt to connect much of India to facebook, facebook has now succeeded in availing the EXPRESS WIFI feature in India. The company has been testing it since long in the rural areas of the country.

We do now receive an official word from the website itself which says,” “Express Wifi” is live in India and it is working with carriers, internet service providers and local entrepreneurs to help expand connectivity to underserved locations around the world”. Adding to it, the organization says they’ll be expanding it soon to other regions as well.

Through Express Wifi, facebook provides customers with an easy and accessible option to “purchase fast, reliable and affordable data packs via digital vouchers to access the internet on the Express Wifi network,” says a spokesperson. He adds,”We focus on building a sustainable economic model for all stakeholders involved, so that local retailer entrepreneurs, ISPs, operators, and Facebook can continue to invest in and operate lasting connectivity. We believe a sustainable economic model is the one which can scale to bring all of India online.”

Facebook, by now hasn’t mentioned as to where else would it be going live. Hope this news gets revealed soon enough and EXPRESS WIFI serves well its purpose.
