Owing to the Demonetization drive in India, many people have taken a liking to the non-cash transaction mode. Shortly after CBSE’s announcement of going cashless from the next term, Delhi University’s Lakshmi Bai College has gone completely cashless. Students’ ID cards, which were earlier used as entry passes in the college, can now be used for making payments within the college campus. All the ID cards bear a bar code and, students can load money in their ID cards through the website or the college’s android application.
“I no more need cash in my college. We pay through our ID cards everywhere within the campus” exclaimed Akankshya, a student of Lakshmibai College. However, this initiative taken by the college as a joint venture between the college and Bank of India, was initiated much before the Prime Minister scrapped the Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes on 8th November, 16.
