Bharti Airtel to challenge Jio’s New Year offer

Reliance Jio offers free voice calls and data with a limit of sending 100 SMS per day. This has challenged many of the telecom companies to launch their own schemes, so that they not face any launch. The Jio offer was valid till December 31, 2016. But now Mukesh Ambani has extended it till March 2017.

Being frustated by this, Airtel has moved telecom dispute tribunal TDSAT against TRAI allowing Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio to continue free promotional offer beyond stipulated 90 days, charging the regulator of being a “mute spectator” to violations.

Airtel says that the offer is causing “significant prejudice and day-to-day loss” to it and “affecting its network” as it has bear asymmetric traffic due to free call offer by Jio.

TRAI said that it needs time to make the decision and it will announce ita decision on January 06, 2017.
