15 places where you can still use old Rs 500 notes

Even though Rs 1000 notes have been completed banished, Rs 500 notes can still be used till December 15, 2016. Here is the list of 15 important places where this old currency Rs 500 notes can still be used:

  1. Purchase of petrol, diesel and gas at stations operated by state-run oil companies.
  2. At international airports, arriving and departing passengers can also use old Rs 500 notes.
  3. Top-up of pre-paid mobile SIM for up to Rs 500 per recharge.
  4. Purchases at consumer cooperative stores.
  5. Milk booths operating under central and state governments.
  6. At government hospitals and pharmacies, with doctor’s prescription.
  7. Ticketing counters at railway stations, government or state-run bus stops and airports.
  8. At crematoria and burial grounds.
  9. Purchase of cooking gas cylinders.
  10. Fees in central, state government colleges.
  11. Court fees.
  12. Purchase of entry tickets for any monument maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
  13. Fees, charges, taxes or penalties, payable to the central, state governments, municipal and local bodies.
  14. Payments for utility charges, including water and electricity.
  15. Purchase of cooking gas cylinders.
